Birthday messages for your partner
A note for two. Some say it straight, some wrap it in the color of the day. Both land the same way.
Start with the simple ones
Straightforward lines first. Add the one thing only the two of you know.
Happy birthday. Let's try one new thing together this year. If it goes sideways, we still have a place to come back to.
Happy birthday. Last year at this time we had no idea how this one would turn out. I like that we get to find out together again.
Happy birthday. Even after all this time, nothing about you has changed. I think that's a good thing. Let's finally sit down and talk properly.
Happy birthday. This year, let's protect a little time for just the two of us. Even in a busy month, one quiet night is enough.
With the color word
Each line quotes the color word assigned to that date. It matches the color word on the day page.
Start a little earlier than usual: early blossom is the color word for the day. Maybe this year you begin one thing before anyone else does.
Give silk a place in the greeting. A warmth that gets used to your hands, and a birthday worth wrapping.
Let dusk be the word of the celebration. There is one thing I want to talk about with you before the day is over.
Adding depth to a birthday wish. Most of what keeps you going happens where nobody can see it. Worth remembering now and then.
Examples by color family
The color name in each line is replaced with the actual name of that day's color.
Red
Tokiiro is a soft red. It takes the light gently. Fine as a last line in an ordinary message.
Poppy Red is the red that does not hide anything. Put it on wrapping paper and the warmth of the words comes through when you hand it over.
Orange
Baby Pink is warm and almost weightless. Even a plain message lands a little softer in this tone.
Salmon Pink carries warmth like something slowly cooked. In winter, wrap a small gift in it and the temperature travels with the parcel.
Yellow
Pale Lemon is a clear yellow. Good for the night when two people sort out a fuzzy conversation and pick the next step.
Tanpopoiro is a straight, unfiltered yellow. Put it on the first line of a card and let the day start somewhere bright.
Green
Byakuiro is a soft green. The color of something that is allowed to grow at its own pace, and does not need hurrying.
Parrot Green is a deep, settled green. It suits a quiet line on the back of an envelope more than a big declaration.
Teal
Kamonohairo is a deep blue-green. It suits a short line between two people who do not need to explain themselves.
Asagiiro is a clear blue-green. It fits the packaging for a departure. Decide the place you come back to before you go.
Blue
Deep Royal Blue is a deep blue. The color of one promise between two people that is quietly being kept.
Wasurenagusairo is a pale watery blue. Write a line for each thing you saw together, and it reads like a quiet diary.
Purple
Edomurasaki is a dusty violet. Nothing has to be said loudly; it reaches the other person anyway.
Biore is a deep violet. It belongs to the hour after the light goes down, when only the two of you are awake.
Pink
Pale Lilac is a pale pink. A good note to add at the end of an ordinary day.
Mobed is a dusty pink. Put it on wrapping paper and the temperature survives being carried around.
Grayscale
Steel Gray is a quiet gray. Whatever you leave unsaid still gets through.
Shikkoku is near-black. One line in the margin of a card will outlast everything else on it.

Questions
Is the color word taken from the birthday color of that day?
Yes. The {words} in each line is the color word assigned to that exact date, the same one shown on the day page.
Can I send these as they are?
They are drafts to start from. Add the nickname or the memory only the two of you share, and it becomes your own line.
