What is a birth fruit?
A birth fruit is the fruit assigned to your date of birth — one per day, enjoyed together with its fruit words.
It is a separate tradition from birthday colors: colors and fruits both go by day, but the fruit's marker is the season. There is no official standard for birth fruits, so sources differ.
We assign fruits by one consistent rule: prefer the fruit whose peak season includes that date.
Our assignment rule
- ・Prefer fruit whose peak season includes the date (market season = seasonMonths, peak = peakMonths)
- ・Pool: 81 fruits sold in Japanese markets. Year-round staples like bananas are excluded — they have no season
- · A fruit appears at most nine times; never on adjacent dates
- ・Fruit words are editorial, drawn from names and food culture
- ・The rule and dataset are published in oureditorial policy

FAQ
- Who decided the birth fruit?
- There is no official standard for birth fruits. Ours are assigned by an editorial rule: prefer a fruit whose peak season includes your date.
- Why do birth fruits differ between sites?
- No unified table exists, so sources assign different fruits to the same date. We publish one consistent, rule-based mapping.
- Why don't year-round fruits like bananas appear?
- Our rule prefers fruit whose peak season includes the date. Fruit sold at the same quality all year has no peak season, so it stays outside the calendar.
- How is a birth fruit different from a birth flower or star?
- Birth flowers and stars assign one flower or one star to each of the 366 days. Birth fruits work the same way, with the season (shun) as their natural marker.
- Is there a birth fruit for February 29?
- Yes. We assign a fruit to February 29 as well.
