September Birth Stars
September nights belong to the Great Square of autumn. All 30 days have their own star; the standouts are Fomalhaut, Alpheratz, Schedar, and Markab. Fomalhaut, the "solitary star of autumn," is the birth star for September 1.
Our birth stars are an independently compiled system: from the stars named by the International Astronomical Union, our editors chose the one that culminates around midnight on each date. Other sources may assign different stars, but this page follows our own mapping throughout.
Find your date's star — and enjoy it alongside the harvest moon.

The September night sky
Fomalhaut (the 1st) is a lonely first-magnitude beacon in the Southern Fish, shining almost alone in the southern autumn sky — hence its Japanese nickname, the "solitary star of autumn." Alpheratz (the 13th and 15th) and Markab (the 4th and 6th) are corners of the Great Square.
The Great Square joins three stars of Pegasus with Alpheratz in Andromeda; Mirach (the 30th) lies along Andromeda's chain. Schedar (the 22nd and 24th) sits in Cassiopeia's W. The clear autumn air makes September ideal for a first try at constellation hunting.
