August Birth Stars
August nights trade summer constellations for autumn ones. All 31 days have their own star; the standouts are Enif, Alderamin, Sadalsuud, and Deneb Algedi. Enif, at the nose of Pegasus, is the birth star for August 11.
Our birth stars are an independently compiled system: from the stars named by the International Astronomical Union, our editors chose the one that culminates around midnight on each date. Other sources may assign different stars, but this page follows our own mapping throughout.

The August night sky
By midnight in August, Pegasus is high in the east and the Great Square announces autumn. Enif (the 11th and 13th) takes its name from the Arabic for "nose." Alderamin (the 3rd and 5th), the brightest star of King Cepheus, will become the pole star thousands of years from now.
Sadalsuud in Aquarius (the 7th and 9th) means "luckiest of the lucky" in Arabic — an auspicious name for a birth star. Deneb Algedi (the 14th and 16th) is the tail of Capricornus, while Tiaki (the 26th and 28th) belongs to Grus, a southern autumn constellation. Enjoy the Milky Way in the evening, then hunt your own star at midnight.
