October Birth Stars
October's crisp air makes for sharp starlight. All 31 days have their own star; the standouts are Achernar, Polaris, Hamal, and Almach. Polaris, the North Star itself, is the birth star for October 27.
Our birth stars are an independently compiled system: from the stars named by the International Astronomical Union, our editors chose the one that culminates around midnight on each date. Other sources may assign different stars, but this page follows our own mapping throughout.

The October night sky
Polaris (the 27th and 29th) holds almost the same spot in the northern sky all year, the eternal guide for travelers. Having the "star that never moves" as your birth star is a small bragging right for late-October birthdays.
Achernar (the 8th and 10th), magnitude 0.45, marks the end of the River Eridanus — a southern star that never rises over Japan. Almach in Andromeda (the 23rd and 25th) is a celebrated double, orange and blue in a telescope. Hamal (the 24th and 26th) is the brightest star of Aries.
How to enjoy October birth stars
- Choose by star words: add the star's name to a Halloween-season card.
- Find it at culmination: Polaris keeps the same spot in the north all night — no need to wait for midnight.
- Pair it with the birthday color: deepening autumn colors and star words for a mellow gift.
- For gifts and cards: "the North Star is my birth star" is a great conversation starter for October birthdays.
FAQ
- What is the birth star for October?
- October's birth stars include Achernar, Polaris, Hamal, and Almach. Every day of October has its own star in our calendar.
- Is the North Star really a birth star?
- Yes — Polaris is the birth star for October 27 and 29. A special star that shines from the same spot all year long.
- Can I actually see my birth star?
- Most are naked-eye stars, but some — like Achernar in Eridanus — lie too far south to see from Japan. A stargazing app will show you where they are.
- What's the difference between a birth star and a constellation?
- A constellation is a region of the sky; a birth star is a single star within it. We define each day's birth star as the star that culminates around midnight on that date.
- How do you choose the birth stars?
- Our editors independently select, from the IAU-named stars, the one culminating around midnight on each date. It is not an official standard.
Our birth stars are an original editorial system compiled from IAU-named stars (rule: the star that culminates around local midnight on each date). Star words are examples; there is no official standard. Star name data: IAU Working Group on Star Names (CC BY 4.0).Editorial policy
