November Birth Fish Calendar
Late autumn turns the calendar north: November's 30 days are covered by 21 species of the cold-water season, among them Bluefin gurnard, Greenland halibut, Marbled rockfish, and Black rockfish. The Bluefin gurnard — the one species our data marks at its market peak this month — is the birth fish for November 1.
Our birth fish are an independently compiled system: our editors prefer species whose peak season (shun) includes each date, and the roster embraces seafood of every kind — crustaceans, shellfish, and cephalopods included. Other sites may assign different fish, but this page follows our own mapping throughout.

The November seafood season
November is a hinge month: many of its species are warming up for their December and January peaks. The Bluefin gurnard, however, is said to be at its best now, its season running from this month into December.
The flatfish family gathers in the cold: Barfin flounder, Arctic flounder, Stone flounder, and Marbled flounder all sit in the month's list, their peaks arriving through winter. The Giant Pacific octopus, a cephalopod whose peak months are December and January, makes an early appearance.
How to enjoy November birth fish
- Choose by fish words: journey and fortitude, the words given to the Grey mullet, suit a November traveler.
- Taste the season: rockfish and gurnard suit a slow nimono as the nights turn cold.
- Pair it with the birthday color: late-autumn colors beside the day's fish make a warmhearted gift.
- For gifts and cards: a flatfish-heavy month makes fun trivia for the winter-fish fan.
FAQ
- What is the birth fish of November?
- November's birth fish are led by the Bluefin gurnard, the month's only species at its market peak in our data, with Greenland halibut, Marbled rockfish, and Black rockfish across the 30 days. Every day of November has its own fish in our calendar.
- What fish is assigned to November 15?
- November 15 is the Grey mullet, whose peak months are December and January — a winter fish making its entrance. Its fish words are journey and fortitude.
- How is a birth fish different from a birth flower or star?
- Birth flowers and birth stars are given day by day. A birth fish is a day-by-day assignment too, but the season is its marker: the fish's peak season (shun) is said to include the date.
- Why do birth fish differ between sites?
- No official standard exists, so each publisher compiles its own list. We follow one consistent rule — peak season includes the date — and note where a month has few species at their absolute peak.
Our birth fish are an original editorial system: dates are matched to species whose peak season (shun) includes them, and the list includes seafood — crustaceans, shellfish, and cephalopods — as well as freshwater fish. There is no official standard; details are in our editorial policy.Editorial policy
